Questionable Weather & Questionable Accents: My May Long Weekend

Watched Munich last night. Interesting. Accents and plot.

On Sunday Dorfmeister and I were supposed to do the Grind... but I chickened out. We went hunting for barbeques instead. Found one but The Brick said it's on order even though we called earlier ahead of time to make sure it was in stock. Whatevs. Had big as barbecue with the mom instead.

On Saturday I hung out with Tanya in the afternoon and found 'formal flip flops' for Dorfmeister.

On Saturday evening we saw The Da Vinci Code. Interesting. The book was better. I think (and probably more than a few people would agree) that Tom Hanks was miscast... there was ZERO chemistry between him and Amelie er... I mean, Audrey Tautou. But that's all I'm going to say about it. It was enjoyable for the mere fact that it is a film interpretation of the book, other than that, I could see how people who have NOT read the book would find the entire thing tedious to watch.

Ho hum.

Further proof that you can't please everyone:

The new Da Vinci Code movie has been previewed to audiences in Europe and North America, and the buzz is, it's not that great. Hmm who saw that coming? As well as drawing criticism/censure/denunciation from close-minded Christian groups, the movie/book is getting flack from albinos:

"Also, while not planning a protest or boycott, members of the National Organization for Albinism and Hypopigmentation expressed unhappiness with the film's heavy, a monk-assassin, being an albino, as described in the book.

"Michael McGowan, an albino who heads the organization, said "The Da Vinci Code" will be the 68th movie since 1960 to feature an evil albino. He said the group aims to use the movie's popularity to raise awareness about the realities of albinism. People with albinism have little or no pigmentation in their skin, eyes and hair." (CNN)

Expressed unhappiness? Is that all? Has anyone raised a stink about how many movies feature evil Arabs and is anyone lobbying on their behalf? Honestly, if the monk were deaf, mute, and blind the appropriate associations would be screaming blue murder about it, no matter how improbable the premise. Fiction, people, fiction. Get over yourselves.

Katherine Heigl is HAWT

and that is coming from a straight woman

so watching GA season finale last night... whew. could it get more dramatic? emotionally charged? i mean seriously, did they have to throw in having a dog put to sleep as well? as if having your HEART TRANSPLANT DOCTOR SHOT IN THE SHOULDER/SPINE isn't unbelievable enough. sheesh.

anywho it occurred to me this morning when scampbe txt-msg'd me back, completely unrelated, that this show that we are so into, is Felicity, 5 years later. Hello, love triangle with two hot guys? Cast of quirky/emotionally-damaged friends?

mmm, yes.

Go shorty, it's your wedding, we gonna drink free wine like it's your wedding...
Cousin Harold married this past weekend in a flurry of blatant Filipinosity.
Hoo-ray for:
  • formation dancing and karaoke performances
  • inappropriate maids of honour dresses
  • odd choices of song to commemorate your relationship with your mother (Riva's daughter covered Kelly Clarkson's Because of You... lyrics of which are somewhat questionable to be singing at your mother's wedding, no?)
  • recently-linked family members already arguing with each other over table assignments
  • getting out of having to pay for drinks at the bar by accumulating multiple bottles of complimentary wine at each table
  • wasabi mashed potatoes (don't f**k with my mashed potatoes, damnit!)
  • running into yet more old high school friends (Fig!),
  • public speaking
  • cheesy video productions (Harold & Riva's 'courtship' video could have been a dead ringer for all those karaoke videos that accompany the lyrics... it could have been a stab at irony but I doubt it)
  • strange champagne glass wedding favours ("is it a candle? where is the wick? what is this jelly like stuff with sparkles in it? hey, look, I can take it out!")
  • taking off to play in the casino for an hour.

Serious good times.

This about sums it up:and also: (what happens when alcohol, cheesy wedding favours, and dirty minds come together)

Running Running Running

This is the first of what may be several posts tonight... because i have not blogged in a long time... my bad.
  • Finished Sun Run with TDow in 1:41:55, minus the 4-minute bathroom break. disappointing, but i only have myself to blame. Dr. Dorfmeister did it in 51:26... with less than one week's worth of training. I have some catching up to do.

  • DMuss did the Vancouver Marathon with little/no training, in 3:42:47 or something like that. Nuts.
  • Crazy Croat moved to TO semi permanently. There was a party last weekend... it was good times.
  • Met up with old high school friend Red Sonia for coffee/catch-up. Time flies! Traded gossip stories. More good times.
